Sandalwood essential oil - ZEN ONE Japan Extra-Premium single tree, 100+ years old, from ancient Zen garden.

il_794xN.2447021854_4wpf+(1).jpg

“ZEN ONE” sacred sandalwood

100% pure Japan SANDALWOOD essential oil

origin: Zen One comes from a single sandalwood tree,
100+ years old, from a 600-year-old Zen garden.

process: Lovingly hydro-distilled in-house for 8 days in JAN 2020.

sandalwood species: Santalum album

parts used: heartwood only from main trunk

terroir: Oita, Kyushu, southern Japan.

A very lucky find in the garden of a 600+year-old Zen Buddhist temple in southern Japan. We know for sure that this tree is over 100 years old because of photos and memories, but the exact age is unknown. When trees like this are harvested in Japan, already quite a rare event, they tend to be made into fine incense as is the culture in Japan. What an opportunity to rescue this one for essential oil distillation! This temple is set deep in a lush mountainside forest surrounded by giant bamboo, cedar, and Japanese citrus trees. Because of the rocky terrain and thin soil this tree grew in, its growth was challenged and it suffered a partial bonsai effect, a stressor on the tree's growth that is known to intensify the aroma the tree produces. The cut wood was then aged 3 years on-site at the temple, before being transported to Aroma Sublime headquarters in Vietnam for 8 days of distillation in Tony's copper still.

An opportunity to experience a sandalwood oil of exceptional quality and distinction. The scent of ZEN ONE is dense and intense, clean, spicy and invigorating but without being sharp or camphorous. Its pure sandalwood glory all the way through, but with some unique features that reflect the very special terroir. Most notably, the outset features a surprising full medley of peppercorns; fresh green peppercorns, resinous and rich gourmet black peppercorn, scintillating pink, and fresh pungent long pepper. You will also notice a prominent sustained cedar note from the outset to heart, as the early spiciness dissipates, cedar and other conifers step in. The finish is big dense sandalwood quintessence, remaining clean and bright all the way. This oil has remarkable staying power.

This very special sandalwood oil will only improve with age.

PAPUA ELIXIR Oud, 100% wild agarwood essential oil, Papua New Guinea, jungle distilled. Genuine hydro-distilled Wild Oud oil.

PAPUA ELIXIR, 100% wild, Papua New Guinea, jungle distilled.

" Effervescent, nocturnal, and utterly alluring; jungle-distilled black magic. First, the unusual colour and texture of this oil must be mentioned. Its a supernatural blue-black colour with almost no translucency, a curious fact that preempts its oddly thin texture, but this exquisite Oud serves as perfect proof that good Oud need not be thick and syrupy to be superlative. Spicy and volatile voodoo from the outset with no vices, featuring fennel root and fennel seed, marjoram, black liquorice, star anise, nutmeg, cassia, vanilla bourbon, and bright Chinese cinnamon. Whispers of petrichor and damp black soil, distant thunderstorm and prickling anticipation dance in the mix. Drydown features expanding burnt sugar, creme brulee, cinnamon heart candy, and ripe black grapes. New wood and natural leather wait patiently and quietly at the base. Pheromonal, aphrodisiac, unisex. "

Yakusugi, the 1000-year-old essential oil!

March 27, 2021  /  Pierre Black

The first trickle of oil from the rare and no longer harvested Yakushima Sugi, Wood from Japanese red cedar trees that are 1000 years old or more from the forest island of Yakushima off the southern coast of Japan, that inspired the princess Mononoke anime film. Some of these trees have been recorded at up to 7000 years old! Fortunately, they are now protected from any type of cutting or harvesting. That means there is an ever-dwindling supply of this gorgeous wood available, and there will be no more to come in our lifetime. Prices keep rising and items tend to increase in value over time.

The oil so far has a beautiful color, as you can see from the photo, and has a very unusual opalescent sheen that is most visible in the meniscus.

Im always struck by how older trees produce their own unique aromatic complexity and almost express an individual personality in their scent composition. Thousand year plus Yakusigi seems to be no exception! It features a stunning complexity a world apart from regular young Japanese red cedar essential oil. The scent does feature classic cedar notes, but not heavy, resinous, sharp or camphorous at all. Instead it presents a broad wood-aroma spectrum that is not obviously cedar, but something completely different. It overlaps slightly into some more sweet/floral oud notes and the edges of aged sandalwood topnotes.
In addition, I notice a sunny medley of dried wildflowers, the scents of chalk and clay, lichen and moss…
I’m very curious to see how this develops as we extend the distillation time and perhaps age the oil a little while.

A Brief Glossary, common terminology explained...

glossary

a very brief explanation of common terms that we use

• ”outset” or “top notes”, refers to how an oil smells right out of the bottle before its has time to “drydown” or “open up”.
• “heart” or “middle notes” refers to the middle part of a scents longevity, the middle part of the “drydown” or “opening up” of a scent.
• “base notes” refer to the last phase of a scent’s longevity. Usually the last third of the scent’s expression, sometimes the last half.
• ”drydown” means how the scent transforms or “opens up” with time once exposed to air or worn on the skin. Sometimes refers to the final third or the ending of a scent’s longevity. We use the term “drydown” to refer to the entire opening up and transformation process of a scent, everything that comes after the top notes: the heart/middle notes, base notes and finish.
• “vices” refers to some scent components that are normally considered undesirable or less desirable, but are a natural feature of the scent profile, especially in Oud oils. These are described as fecal, urine, ammonia, bile, fermented, animal, sweaty, acrid, genital, etcetera. While many of these might sound quite repulsive, small amounts of these scent elements may be desirable when in present in the proper balance. Better oud oils will feature vices that are well harmonized or not present at all.

The Best Bottles for Fine Aromatics? Our Choice is Clear.

There’s nothing like the color of a fine Oud.

We think that boring brown bottles limit your enjoyment of the finest essential oils by limiting your visual enjoyment of the oil. We thing the visual element is a vital part of experiencing a premium aromatic.

There is always a debate over what type of bottle is best for fine aromatics and essential oils. Strong forces in the industry favor the brown glass bottle as the final word in responsible bottling of essential oils and other aromatic extracts. But is this absolutely necessary and absolutely true?

For our purposes, we disagree. We think that the color and consistency of the contents are an essential part of the essential oil experience. The same applies to attars, perfumes, absolutes, and even some medicinals and skincare products. We think that when you invest in a one-of-a-kind premium natural aromatic, the color and texture are part of the experience and the full enjoyment of the product.

Color and texture provide pleasure, relieve curiosity, and impart relevant information about the unique product you have chosen. Color is a big part of what makes a fine botanical extract special and unique, even when compared to other extractions of the same plant.

We believe in full transparency - and a clear bottle that lets you see and enjoy exactly what’s inside.

The 2022 Aroma Sublime 2.5 ml bottle. We believe in full transparency - and a clear bottle that lets you see and enjoy exactly what’s inside.

Light damage? What about notorious “light damage” as a result of using transparent bottles?
The answer is easy. Yes, sunlight in particular will damage, degrade, or alter many essential oils and other botanical extracts. So keep your bottles somewhere dark. It’s that simple. Clear, brown, or otherwise, botanicals should be kept protected from light and temperature fluctuation as much as possible.

Old habits?
I suppose there may be the perception of convenience in the old habit of keeping your entire essential oil pharmacy out on you kitchen counter or even in a sunny window sill! This isn’t really good for your essential oils and other botanical extracts anyway, even if the bottle is brown.

You wouldn’t keep a fine wine or rare spirit in a sunny window? Even your ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise are likely to receive the thoughtful protection of the cold, dark fridge! Why not give at least the same level of thought and care to your sumptuous collection of premium aromatics and essential oils?!

In short: Keep all your aromatics somewhere dark and temperature stable. And enjoy our transparent bottles with confidence!

UNDERSTANDING and properly enjoying PREMIUM OUD essential oils.

AromaSublimeBanner.jpg

Many people are used to briefly sniffing an essential oil or other aromatic product right out of the bottle, and with this initial impression, making a decision. Oud oil is a completely different olfactory experience that deserves a more careful and patient approach.

The Oud experience is all in the "drydown". Drydown refers to how the scent transforms or “opens up” with time once exposed to air or worn on the skin. Sometimes the term refers to the final third or the ending of a scent’s longevity. Here we use the term “drydown” to refer to the entire opening up and transformation process of a scent while wearing it, everything that comes after the earliest top notes: the heart/middle notes, base notes, and finish.

Oud oil in general is well known for its staggering overall complexity and depth, and also its exciting variability and the often surprising transformations it manifests during its drydown process. Oud is also known for its longevity when worn on skin or clothing, better Oud often still detectable and pleasant smelling after 24 hours. Oud often demonstrates almost unbelievable changes in scent variation throughout its drydown process.

AgarCloseup.jpg

Every Oud is different. Although Oud oil is likely to possess some classic scent elements common to most Oud oils, the possible range of scents contained in any one Oud oil seems almost unlimited. Lower quality Oud is notoriously unpleasant and intense for most people, being easily afflicted with excessive "vices" - unpleasant scent components - perhaps with more pleasant features coming through well into the drydown. Fortunately, this kind of tolerance is not required if you choose premium Oud from a reputable producer.

Classic Oud scent components that are common to most Oud oils are; wood, tobacco, leather, spice, fruit, and florals; however these demonstrate remarkable diversity and specificity from product to product. Oud is also reputed to be one of the true aphrodisiacs of the natural world, finer Ouds featuring a pronounced pheromonal allure.

OudClarificationLab.jpg

The very best Oud is almost always from wild agarwood trees. While some cultivated varieties can be quite nice, they typically do not come close to the depth, breadth, and longevity of a 100% wild agarwood distillations with expert oversight from forest to flacon.

Fine Oud is an olfactory puzzle box for the aromatic aficionado and perhaps the most complex and delightful single-source scent in nature. Variation in scent reflects the terroir, the state of the wood itself at the time of harvest, the exact species of tree, distillation technique, and proper ageing of the oil.

All Ouds are definitely not created equal.

Our Exclusive Georgian Damascena Rose Oil

We are so excited to offer you Georgian Rose Otto "Premiere" - our exclusive single estate rose essential oil.

When you look at where Georgia is on a map you quickly realize that it comes as no surprise that this country is destined to produce magnificent roses and rose oil as they are situated in precisely the right climate zone with the other premier rose producing countries; Turkey, Bulgaria, Iran, and others. Georgia has been said to be the birth place of wine, and is said to still produce some of the most interesting and quality wines in recent years. Many of these vineyards have underground aquifers, as does our rose estate. The water, along with every step of growth of these flowers to production of oil is meticulously tested and to the highest standards. We oversee the process and since we are buying directly from the producer, there is no risk of adulteration, and no middle men. This allows you to obtain a premium and highly exclusive rose oil of verified quality at a reasonable price.

The unique terroir, and the passion and love and excitement of finally harvesting oil, truly gives this Georgian Rose Otto "Premiere", a superbly crafted example of the familiar “rose damascena” species of rose but with an exciting new regional terroir.

Georgian Rose Otto "Premiere" - our exclusive single estate rose essential oil.

Georgian Rose Otto "Premiere" - our exclusive single estate rose essential oil.

Typically rose oil is sold diluted in a carrier oil due to its high price and intense aromatic potency. Even when you find “pure” undiluted rose oil, they are often found to be adulterated or diluted with other oils when submitted for laboratory testing.

Our rose oil is guaranteed 100% pure hydro-distilled single estate Georgian rose.

Rose oil is widely used as a traditional medicine with noted antibacterial, antioxidant, antitussive, hypnotic, anti-diabetic, and broncho-relaxant properties. Rose oil is one of the few essential oils shown to directly affect the nervous system modulating brain frequency toward a meditative or deeply relaxed state.

We are delighted to offer you this rare gem in the world of essential oils, and we are sure once you experience our rose oil, you will be as excited as we are.

Our exclusive, limited, curated collection of Oud, Sandalwood, and Frangipani oil are produced right here by us personally in small batches.

TonyGiantAgarwood.jpg

Our pride and joy is our Frangipani flower oil from our own home plantation. Hydro-distilled Frangipani essential oil is very rare, and as far as we know we are one of the few companies in the world who produce this incredible flower bomb! Its common for other “experts” to say that hydro-distillation of Frangipani is impossible. Well, we like doing the impossible!

We also pride ourselves on our two single-estate varieties of pure Rose essential oil, one from Georgia and the other from Persia. Our colleague visits the distilleries there personally so there is no risk of adulteration and no middle men.

We are happy to answer any questions you might have. We are here to meet your needs and provide unmatched price to quality with a personal touch.

I look forward to hearing from you.

What are we most excited about these days?

Rose oil.

The very best we could find. Single estate, hydro-distilled. Its so good, we went all the way to Georgia to find it.

Georgia, a country at the intersection of Europe and Asia, is a former Soviet republic that’s home to Caucasus Mountain villages and Black Sea beaches. It’s famous for Vardzia, a sprawling cave monastery dating to the 12th century, and the ancient wine-growing region Kakheti. The capital, Tbilisi, is known for the diverse architecture and mazelike, cobblestone streets of its old town.
