PAILIN PRESTIGE "PEACHES & CREAM" SINGLE RESERVE 2023 • Single-tree, 100% wild Oud • rare Cardamom Mountains, Pailin Province, Cambodia

• highlights: Classic but exceptionally refined, sweet and smooth Aquilaria crassna profile with special highlights; peaches, oranges, buttery & creamy notes, sunny floral notes, baked vanilla; sweet, feminine, and pheromonal. Very special, yet very classic, at the same time!

• material: distilled from one single mature tree found in the Cardamom Mountains range of Pailin province Cambodia. 100% wild Aquilaria crassna. This tree was a very special find!

• production: Distilled in October 2023 in copper with a glass collector. Trusted and verified artisan partner-distiller. Lab-tested for purity and authenticity.

• scent description: Remarkably smooth and round right from the start, this is a gorgeous expert distillation of one single mature Aquilaria crassna tree from a very special and rare terroir. This opulent and quintessential Oud opens with some delightful particularities including bright peaches and cream, orange sherbet, peach schnapps, jackfruit, shaved orange rind; sunny, buttery floral notes; bodhi flower, and vanilla extract, all carried on a silky smooth classic A. crassna substructure. It's beautifully round and full; top notes glowing at the outset, without being sharp, and with its heart and base aspects all seeming to be evident at once. In this way it is delightfully smooth and easy to enjoy; very accessible as Oud goes, but absolutely not lacking in character, fulness, and depth. The heart pulses into candied citrus peel, peach pie, cozy baked vanilla, butter tarts, and a medley of gourmet dried fruit; raisin, apricot, fig, and the finest dates. Through all of this, you will notice the base notes, clear and unwavering, supporting the sumptuous, languid, drydown; silky orange marmalade, sunshine on grass, fresh blonde pipe tobacco (with zero smoke), soft natural suede, new hardwood and carpenters shop, humidor (zero smoke), and golden demerara sugar. This is a very special oil that we wish we had distilled ourselves in-house! It's a truly outstanding and impressive production from one of our closest partner-distillers.

• notes of controversy: None

Additional notes:

• When we say wild, we mean wild! All our “wild” designated agarwood and oil is from genuine 100% naturally occurring wild forest agarwood trees with no human interventions prior to harvest. Occasionally we might offer other options, but they will be clearly indicated as either “cultivated” (farmed) or “semi-wild” (agarwood growth influenced by human intervention in a natural setting). When we say wild, we mean wild!

• One-tree wonders! We strongly prefer single-tree agarwood harvests and single-tree Oud oil distillations. This has both environmental benefits and aesthetic benefits in effect capturing the unique essence of a single, fully mature, agarwood tree. When this single-tree preference is not possible we strongly favor combining wood from only a few fully mature trees from the same geography, of known provenance, supplied by trusted and experienced harvesters. (the only exception would be in the case of carefully planned blends or co-distillations which we always describe with precision.) More and more you will see us moving toward single-tree productions. It’s part of our commitment to sustainability and the joy we take in honoring the individual aromatic “soul” of each tree we harvest.

We try to describe our Oud oils as accurately as possible using common vocabulary from Western cultural perspective. There might also be some specialized technical or aromatic nomenclature as we seek to also educate and inform our customers. We hope to strike a balance; offering accessibility and straightforwardness while also providing some technical and specialized vocabulary when we think it is informative or necessary.  Our Oud descriptions are subjective and may vary slightly over time due to the effects of aging on Oud's aromatic profile, however, Oud oils will generally only improve with age, and the key features of a particular oil will generally be quite stable over time. We try to repeat the assessment process and update the detailed aromatic description of every Oud oil in our catalog at least once every 12 months. We pride ourselves on detailed accurate descriptions of our Oud oils, and we are happy to receive your constructive feedback on this topic.
