• scent highlights: intense fruit, sweet brown spices, and well-harmonized smoke.

• scent description: A beautiful harmony of intense ripe peach, plum, and nectarine; sweet brown dessert spices, allspice, nutmeg, cassia; raisins, rosewood, fresh amber tobacco, fine dark rum, and just the right amount of smoke weaving through.
It’s like eating a piece of the fanciest rummy Christmas pudding next to a warm cup of lapsang souchong tea in a finely appointed log cabin in front of a smoldering fire. Seriously.
Many customers are justifiably afraid of smoky Oud because many smoky Ouds have simply been burned during excessively high-temperature amateur distillations. This one, however, while rich in its smoke aspect, is not burned, allowing all the other most appreciated aspects of a great Oud to shine through along side a prominent complex smoky note.

• notes of controversy: intense smoke and leather notes straight from the bottle which immediately dissipate and harmonize early in the drydown. Smoke remains a prominent feature. See notes in the primary description if you have concerns about smoke.

• distillation notes: Jungle-distilled wood-fired in copper/steel mix. Sourced from a trusted artisanal distiller. Lab-tested for purity and authenticity.

• species: Aquilaria crassna.

• When we say wild, we mean wild! All our “wild” designated agarwood and oil is from genuine 100% naturally occurring wild forest agarwood trees with no human interventions prior to harvest. Occasionally we might offer other options, but they will be clearly indicated as either “cultivated” (farmed) or “semi-wild” (agarwood growth influenced by human intervention in a natural setting). When we say wild, we mean wild!

• One tree wonders! We strongly prefer single-tree agarwood harvests and single tree Oud oil distillations. This has both environmental benefits and aesthetic benefits in terms of capturing the unique essence of a single, fully mature, agarwood tree. When this single-tree preference is not possible we strongly favour combining wood from only a few fully mature trees, of known provenance, from trusted and experienced harvesters. More and more you will see us moving toward single-tree productions. It’s part of our commitment to sustainability and the joy we take in honouring the individual aromatic “soul” of each tree we harvest.
